Natural Hazards Lab

Volcanoes in the Pacific Northwest
1) The Pacific Northwest hosts a series of volcanoes that have been active in the past
10,000 years. Summarize the major hazards and provide information on the regional
extent affected by the different hazards of each major volcano. (20).

2) Different volcanoes are within sight of the three urban centres in the Pacific
Northwest (Vancouver, Seattle, Portland). Assess and rank the volcanic hazard risks for
each centre. And then rank the cities from highest to lowest risk from volcanic hazards. (12)

Mass Wasting: Meager Creek Landslide
3) In August 2010 a massive landslide occurred on Mt. Meager. Summarize this event.
Why is Mt. Meager so susceptible for these massive landslides? (6)
