An argumentative essay that incorporates the act of close reading a text. Use concrete evidence from the text itself (direct quotations, paraphrasing of scenes, etc.) to construct a consistent, well-supported interpretation of some aspect of the novel (The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson), such as a theme, idea, or message. You do not need to discuss the entire novel; rather, you should try to focus your interpretation as closely as possible on certain passages and scenes, selecting specific lines, images, and words that best support your argument.
Please also include a title for the essay.
